I was raised in Virginia, where I first developed an interest in American history and politics. My hometown was home to numerous battles during the Civil War, and many markers of the past are commemorated in the city. However, I was also raised in an environment that valued the sacrifices of African Americans so that we all could live in a just world. I attended Spelman College, hoping to become a Civil Rights Attorney or a Political Pundit.  Thankfully, Dr. Cynthia Neal Spence, the UNCF-Mays Undergraduate Research Program, and the Leadership Alliance steered me down the academic path! I am a first-generation college graduate.

When I am not thinking of race in American politics (or I always do!), I enjoy bowling, biking, watching House Hunters, and reading young adult fiction novels & cookbooks! Also, I am a proud and active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where I engage in public service in Boston, Massachusetts.
